Nat King Cole
A pianist before he was a singer, he founded the King Cole Trio, Capitol's best-selling act in the 1940s. Nature Boy, Mona Lisa and Too Young all reached number one, for around 50 million records sold. In 1956 he became the first African American to host a national television show. He died in 1965, aged 45.
