Miles Davis
A trumpeter born in 1926 in Illinois, Miles Davis changed language roughly every ten years: be-bop alongside Charlie Parker, then cool, modal, and finally electric. Kind of Blue, recorded in 1959, has sold 6.4 million copies worldwide. Bitches Brew opened fusion in 1970. He died in 1991.
