John Coltrane

A tenor and soprano saxophonist, he played with Miles Davis from 1955 to 1960 and with Thelonious Monk in 1957 before leading his own groups. Giant Steps in 1960, My Favorite Things in 1961, A Love Supreme in 1964: three records that moved the limits of jazz. He died in 1967 at forty, and received a special Pulitzer Prize in 2007.
