Gloria Gaynor
Born in Newark in 1943, she was singing in the city's clubs by the early 1960s. Never Can Say Goodbye, in 1975, was the first song to go to the top of Billboard's dance chart. Then came I Will Survive, at the end of 1978: more than fifteen million copies and a Grammy. A second Grammy went to the album Testimony in 2020.
