Elis Regina

Born in Porto Alegre in 1945, she was singing on the radio at thirteen. Her win at the first Brazilian popular music festival, in 1965 with Arrastão, propelled her. Dois na Bossa became the first Brazilian record to sell a million copies. Elis & Tom, cut in 1974 with Antônio Carlos Jobim, remains her most famous meeting. She died in São Paulo in 1982, at 36.
