A jazz guitarist who turned professional at 19, this Pittsburgh native born in 1943 released Breezin' in 1976: number one on the Billboard, triple platinum, and a Grammy for record of the year for This Masquerade. Give Me the Night broke through in 1980 in pop as well as R&B. Ten Grammy Awards in all, and the title of Jazz Master in 2009.
