Iolanda Gigliotti was born in Cairo in 1933, to Calabrian parents. Bambino made her name in 1956 and opened a thirty-three year career, with more than seven hundred songs recorded in several languages. Gigi l'amoroso went to number one in twelve countries. Among the first in France to take up disco, she died in Paris in 1987, at 54.
