Alvin Joiner, born in Detroit in 1974, moved to Los Angeles as a teenager. Restless in 2000 reached number 12 in America and went platinum; Man vs. Machine climbed to number three two years later. A wider audience also knew him as the host of Pimp My Ride between 2004 and 2007, and from 8 Mile.
