The Smiths
Formed in Manchester in 1982 around Morrissey and Johnny Marr, they released only four albums in four years. Meat Is Murder reached number one in the United Kingdom in 1985, The Queen Is Dead number two the following year. Split in 1987, they remain a reference claimed by Radiohead, Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys.
