The Clash
Formed in London in 1976, the quartet of Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon took punk out of its confines. London Calling in 1979, Sandinista! in 1980, then Combat Rock in 1982, number two in the United Kingdom. Rock the Casbah reached number eight in America. Split in January 1986, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
