Born in California in 1985 to a Mexican father and an African American mother, he won the Grammy for best R&B song in 2013 for Adorn, a number one on the R&B chart and number seventeen on the Hot 100. Kaleidoscope Dream entered the Billboard 200 at number three. Sure Thing had a second life in 2023 thanks to TikTok, up to number eleven.
