In Detroit, he adapted Delta blues to the electric guitar. Boogie Chillen', recorded in 1948, was the best-selling record on the race records market in 1949, before Crawling King Snake, Dimples and Boom Boom. Four Grammys between 1990 and 1998, an honorary Grammy in 2000, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. He died in 2001.
