Gordon Sumner, born in Wallsend in 1951, sang and wrote for The Police from 1977, before a solo career opened by The Dream of the Blue Turtles in 1985. More than 100 million records sold, seventeen Grammys, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Polar Music Prize in 2017.
