Formed in 1995 in Battle, East Sussex, the band built its sound on piano rather than guitar. Hopes and Fears, in 2004, sold around 5.5 million copies and won the Brit Award for best British album. Their first four albums all reached number one in the United Kingdom. Thirteen million records sold.
