Joy Division
Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook each attended the Sex Pistols concert at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester, on 4 June 1976; Hook bought a bass the very next day. With Ian Curtis and Stephen Morris, they recorded Unknown Pleasures in 1979 and then Closer in 1980. Curtis died in May 1980, at 23, the day before they were to leave for America. The other three then founded New Order.
