The singer from Minas Gerais renewed sertanejo by crossing it with pop, under the label sertanejo universitário. Balada, released in 2011 and taken up as an anthem by Brazilian footballers, went to number one in France, Italy and the Netherlands, a rare crossing for a Brazilian song.
