American hip-hop group from New York, formed by Mike D, MCA and Ad-Rock. Starting from hardcore punk in 1979, they moved to rap and released Licensed to Ill in 1986, the first hip-hop album to go to number one in the United States, before Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head.
