Born in Missouri to Senegalese parents and raised partly in Dakar, he broke through in 2004 with Locked Up. Konvicted, in 2006, is certified six times platinum by the RIAA. With Smack That and I Wanna Love You, he became the first solo artist to hold the top two places on the Hot 100 at once, a feat he repeated. 35 million albums sold, 45 Hot 100 entries.
